Summertime Redfish

This is your trip. It’s not about what the guide wants. Baffin Bay is a destination not a day trip. The allure of this Bay system attracts the hardiest of souls and seekers of that special experience that this historic area can provide.

We want your trip to be memorable for all the right reasons. Your frequent calls and questions are welcomed and encouraged. Always keep in contact with your guide to keep track of weather conditions, equipment issues and anything that may affect the quality of your trip.

We wade fish and occasionally drift with artificials only. It’s all about the experience of fishing Texas’ most famous bay system not a box full of meat. We enjoy eating fish as muchReleasing the future as the next person but ask that you practice a little conservation. It is your trip and as long as the laws of the state of Texas are adhered to, we are good. As a guideline, we recommend you keep five trout and release everything over 25” unless you plan on mounting the fish. Keep in mind that fiberglass replicas are available these days and usually look better and last longer. We will make sure to take plenty of pictures to commemorate the event and you will see how great it feels to watch a quality fish swim free. Contact us with any questions or book your trip now.

Hunting Trips with Capt. Black

New for the 2009 - 2010 season, we offer Cast & Blast dove hunts and duck hunts. There are just too many options to list on this website and a call to the Capt. will settle all your questions. We mainly hunt dove (both whitewing and mourning) over harvested grain fields and South Texas watering holes.

You will need to bring your own shotgun (preferably 12 or 20 gauge) and your own shells (#7 1/2 or #8 ). The number of boxes of shells will depend on how good a shot you think you are. Bring double what you think you will need. Also, make sure you have your hunting license with HIP certification and migratory birds stamp.

Its usually very hot during the first dove season so dress comfortably in loose camo clothing and make sure you have good snakeproof boots or leggings. Remember, everything in South Texas either pokes, bites or stings. The second season after Christmas can be cold and sometimes wet, so dress accordingly.

Safety is imperative and any unsafe gun handling will not be tolerated. We hunt with dogs and they are like our children so don't even think of pointing a gun near or shoot over one of our dogs. No little bird is worth the wrath of the owner.

We will provide plenty of cold drinks and will clean and bag your birds.

Duck hunting on the bay has become very popular and last season we bagged 12 species of ducks. We hunt from wooden blinds and ground blinds when necessary. It does get cold down here and you will need to dress in warm, waterproof camo clothing and waders. Sometimes it will be necessary to wade to your blind.

You will need your Texas hunting license with migratory gamebird stamp. You will also need your own shotgun (12 or 20 gauge) and the appropriate STEEL shot. We will provide drinks and will breast (wing attached as per Federal guidelines) and bag your birds.

Our goal is to make sure you have a safe, pleasant and exciting adventure while you are with us.

We are not a hotel or motel. We can make arrangements for our clients who want to stay with us or near us. Be aware that that lodging in the area is in short supply particularly on weekends. We can also arrange for all of your meals whether you want to do the cooking yourself, let us cook, or if you need catering for larger groups. We can help you plan all of your events from start to finish. Feel free to contact us and we can make all the arrangements.
